Guide for Using MediaWiki in a Hosted Environment

Note: This site has been migrated from one service provider to another and simultaneously the default skin has been changed from Pivot to Vector. That is why some styles, like buttons, seem a bit odd. But all will be updated to new styles soon.

MediaWiki is a free and open-source software package originally developed as a platform for Wikipedia but now widely used by companies, government departments and individuals for a diverse range of knowledgebases, intranets and websites.

The aim of this Guide is to assist individuals or others choosing to build a MediaWiki-based website in a hosted environment, without access to a server.

The main topics of this Guide are arranged by Role - and if you are the owner of a hosted MediaWiki website then you will be the System Administrator, Administrator and User, all-in-one!
